Gentle Touch is the fourth episode of Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy in Space, preceded by What Do You Want to Be?, and followed by Little Fingers.
Overview[]
Bee and PuppyCat visit Bee’s old job at the Wizards’ cat cafe and find the amount of bills the family is unable to pay ever since Deckard left for school. Bee attempts to help by eating as much on the menu she could order and by paying the family back with money earned from a temp job. While working, Bee is warned of strange magical hands causing issues on temp jobs.
Synopsis[]
The episode opens with Wesley Wizard in the Cat Cafe, seeing a menu labeled only with "Fish". Wesley with the help of Mr. Sweaty Napkins erases the sign, to the annoyance of Howell. Bee decides to nap in the cupboard and Deckard offers to make a bed for her out of gelatin. Bee gives Deckard an IOU ("I owe you") card for his help. Wesley and Howell continue arguing about Howell trying to feed people Wesley's fish, until Howell catches Bee napping, and tells her to continue working. Merlin then arrives at the cafe, and everyone congratulates him on finishing medical school. Howell decides to have everyone take a family photo, lining them up from oldest to youngest.
Flash forward to after Deckard has left for cooking academy. Bee is reading a note he left thanking her for convincing him to go and asking her to look after his family. Bee introduces Puppycat to the wizards, and how she worked at the cafe before Howell fired her. Puppycat sees the family photo, and is infatuated by the picture of Wesley, spending the rest of the episode trying to impress him. Wesley then shows up, and uses an IOU to have Bee go fishing with him. They find a fish stuck in one of Bee's things, and Wesley tells Bee that she should pick them all up, and she says that she doesn't like being underwater. He tells her it's good to be responsible.
They take the injured fish that Wesley caught back to the Cat Cafe. Bee doesn't want to go in, for fear of running into Howell, but Wesley tells her that her two favorite cats had kittens together. So she goes to the window to look at them, and sees PuppyCat practicing his punches on the kittens, who are unharmed because his swings are so feeble. She rushes in anyway to scold him, and gets distracted by the kittens. She then hears Howell coming, and runs to hide in her nap cupboard. Inside, she finds stacks of overdue bills, and comes out of hiding. Bee orders a long list of food dishes to help make up for business lost in Deckard's absence. She soon realizes, however, that she forgot her wallet, and so gets a temp job in order to pay for her giant meal.
She and PuppyCat end up on a planet whose residents need help sending their babies out into space. PuppyCat takes the opportunity to practice his punches some more. Bee texts Deckard the whole time. She tells him that she ran into Howell, and he asks if it was awkward. Interestingly, she doesn't seem to recall the interaction, instead saying that she doesn't know because she was hiding. It's established at this point that Bee has memory issues, and though she is easily distracted, it's uncharacteristic for her to forget something like running into Howell that quickly. Rather, this scene seems to imply that there are amnesiac barriers between Bee's different parts. This would explain several things, like her sudden and drastic mood shifts in episodes like Snow and Violets, as well as Violet's statement that she didn't know which part of Bee she needed to talk to in I Won't Leave You Alone.
Bee and PuppyCat teleport back into the Cat Cafe after dark, startling Howell. He says he wasn't planning on charging Bee for her food, but she insists on paying.
